The Real Reason (TM)

I have noticed from debates that many people insist that there was a "real reason" for invading Iraq, and that that reason was control of oil or empire-creation. The invasion of Iraq was supported by people all over the world, with roughly half the populations of USA, Australia and the UK supporting it, and a majority of Kuwaitis too. If you want to know what the "real reason" is, you should simply ask those who supported the war why they did it. Our governments are merely reflections of the wider community. If the community has a reason for wanting it, the government probably has the exact same reasons itself. Just go to www.whitepages.com.au and ring up 10 random Australians, and ASK them why they supported the war. I bet The main reason is simply that Saddam was seen as a general threat to the world. If you are lucky enough to get a neocon out of your 5 pro-war Australians, you'll also hear about the need for Middle East reform. To end the hatred emanating from the "Arab Street". I bet you get a big fat ZERO who wanted to steal/control oil. It doesn't make any difference to us whether we buy oil from a dictatorship or a democracy, the price is the same. We do like the idea of Iraq's oil wealth going to the people of Iraq instead of a dictator though. And it was expected that the majority of Iraqis would appreciate that change too. And indeed, half did! It is ludicrous to think that there's some secret plot that all of our democracies have managed to keep secret. WMD (which was a violation of the UN ceasefire agreement) was given as the main reason because it had the widest support and best legal excuse. But the other reasons you can find in articles on the internet. Or just ring people up - go ahead, I dare you! Just pretend to be doing a survey. Please respect the time differences though! To translate a Sydney number like (02) 9123 4567 into international, just chop off the "0" and replace it with "+61", so that the number becomes +61 2 9123 4567. The "+" means you should put your international dialling code there.

Good Morning Vietnam

Thirty years ago today, tragedy struck. To quote the BBC - "Hundreds of thousands of South Vietnamese officers and soldiers were imprisoned for years after the war. Discrimination against them and their families, including children, forced millions to risk their lives on the open sea to flee Vietnam."

I am SO sorry this happened to you. It was probably the darkest chapter in Anglophone history. We abandoned millions of Vietnamese allies, and allowed them to be frogmarched off to commie gulags against their will. In the middle of the Cold War even. It was unbelievable. It was NVA ***tanks*** that defeated the SVA, not the glorious VC guerillas as myth has it. The VC were completely wiped out after the Tet Offensive. The war had all been won. All that was required was for the SVA to receive money and weapons to match what the NVA was getting from the Soviets, and they would be in the same position as South Korea. Hell, all it needed was for US air support which would have wiped out the NVA tanks. It was all held back, for no reason at all. It was the US Democrats who controlled Congress who denied both the funding and the air support. Something they have never apologized for. Hell, they even cheered it on. Disgraceful. We all disappeared up our own arses.

But let's not just look at the US, where were Britain and Australia when freedom was on the line? Unfortunately both had left-wing governments as well. I'm so sorry for the people of Vietnam. The good news is that the free world now has the technical ability to relatively easily liberate you. This time it will be our tanks crashing through the presidential palace to bring in a new regime. The bad news is that although we have the ability to bring you justice and freedom, we don't yet have the political will to do so. However, as I promised the Iranians, I will do everything in my power to create a political consensus to liberate you, albeit belatedly. I just want you to know that your suffering has not been alone. I have empathy for you. Your liberation should be included amongst Australia's highest national priorities. I will do my best. I am so sorry. If anyone deserves justice and freedom, it is you.

Oh, I'd also lay some of the blame on the rest of the non-Anglophone free world, but I don't think they would understand. Here are a couple of links of interest.

Meet the Anglophones

I received a story in my email. Before delving into it, let me make a few observations. The first is that 3 out of the 4 countries that sent combat troops in Operation Iraqi Freedom were Anglophones (ie English-speakers). I had expected the entire free world to rally behind an opportunity to liberate 27 million slaves living in a holocaust. I was shocked to find how vigorously some opposed it. But I expected that at least the Anglophones would rally around the side of freedom. The Anglophones have a long history of supporting the free world, and especially Canada and New Zealand had a hitherto perfect record of turning up when freedom was on the line. I was greatly saddened to see them opposing this operation.

Other examples of Anglophone failure were Britain failing to turn up to Vietnam, and the US being late to WWI and WWII. Only Australia has a perfect track record, and that record was perilously close to being broken as the opposition leader came out opposed to the war. Like most democracies, Australia is split 50/50 and the opposition could easily have been in power instead. I knew that the left-wing opposition were greedy communists, but what I didn't know is that they'd lost their support of human rights and freedom. The anti-Americanism expressed by some is nothing short of racist. This is a worldwide problem that needs to be addressed, but I'll leave that for another day.

Another thing that has had me perpetually surprised is why only the Anglophones ever seem to do anything. Why do we not hear of the Norwegians doing something in the world? Do they not have an opinion, or too busy yodelling or do the English-speaking media not know how to translate from Norwegian or what? I once asked a Finn this question, and he said the reason that the Anglophones ran the world was because England won the colonial wars against France, and the US won the Spanish-American war. Interesting answer!

Anyway, without further ado, the story...

This is a story about a right proper lady who had 4 bastard sons. They were rough and tumble chaps except for one who was queer. It wasn't his fault though since he is half French. Anyway the 2 older sons went north and the two younger sons went south.

During their teenage years, the boys were extremely rebelious and asked mom to move out and go home to her own house. This hurt their mother terribly but she didn't realize how much her sons really loved her deep down.

One day, a madman got into an argument with their mother and her neighbors. She was in dire straights and was in danger of having her home taken away. Her sons came to her aid as they had grown and were quite stout fellows.

They showed their mother their loyalty to her by defending her honor twice against the same bully in her neighborhood. Now that they have grown, their rebelious nature was toned down and their mother realized they needed to be their own men.

Today the oldest son is the richest most powerful man in the world. His queer brother living upstairs has done well enough for himself but still needs his big brother around to make sure the other kids don't pick on him. The younger boys have also made out quite well for themselves. They live down south and also well to do and are the toughest kids in their neighborhood.

Today the blueblood snobs in mom's neighborhood are green with envy that those bastard boys are now richer and stronger than all her neighbors combined. This brings great pleasure to mom as those backstabing snobs are spineless neutered & broke and have to ask mom and her boys to keep the bully's they once were away from them. They just don't understand that principles are more important and riteous than swindling a quick buck.

It looks like mom and the boys will need to teach them all a lesson since they don't seem to know right from wrong.

Gigantic Misunderstandings

First of all, I'd like to say that we're in the calm before the potential storm. Stepping back from the low-level invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, I see the following. The Muslim world has attacked the Christian world. The Christian world is perplexed by this. So before striking back and annihilating all Muslims, being good scientists, they have held their punch, and remain holding their punch at the moment. The Muslims are blissfully unaware that they are in danger of complete annihilation, to eradicate the enemy ideology.

The Americans have been WONDERFUL scientists. Rather than turn Afghanistan into a glass desert, they chose instead to use the MINIMUM FORCE required to break open freedom of speech, so we could learn exactly what the driving forces behind them was. The US was criticized for pulling back from Fallujah the first time in April 2004. In fact, the US troops were furious at seemingly backing down to the enemy, especially when they were nearly defeated. But this served a purpose too. To find out exactly what sort of economy/state terrorists would create if they were given the freedom to do whatever they wanted. Fallujah was turned into a "Beyond Thunderdome" city, and sure enough, before long the citizens decided that they'd rather live in a normal city with normal law and order.

Most of the actions taken by America during the War on Terror have been experimental. Instead of just crushing the enemy as is traditional, the Americans have been running endless experiments. Toying with Al Sadr to see how much chaos Al Sistani would put up with before throwing his weight behind the "infidels". America has been excrutiatingly careful to pay utmost respect to Islam, because this is not the appropriate time for a war on Islam. First of all we need to analyze Arab/Muslim mentality to find out what it is about them that makes them behave differently from the West. They are humans and should be obeying normal human psychology. The objective is to provide a free environment (ie freedom of speech, especially anonymously via the internet) where they can say what they really think, so we can analyze the differences, before deciding what to do about the enemy ideology. The Americans have been careful not to respond to insults from the entire world. It is not comfortable being so hated, but now is not the time to react to that hatred. Now is the time to analyze why that hatred exists. And we don't want to know the opinions of dictators, we want to know the opinions of the people.

Also, there are things we don't understand about ourselves. E.g. what determines who joins the coalition in Afghanistan and Iraq? What creates an affinity between the various member countries? I believe I have the answer to that already - we are mostly countries that are against subjugation, and we are tribal on anti-subjugation. But it was interesting to see the terrorists in Iraq blowing up a Christian church, trying to provoke a reaction from America. The terrorists are tribal on Islam, and they are expecting us to be tribal on Christianity. But in the west, religion is just an individual choice, not membership of a tribe. And they don't understand that we fight wars according to science, and that blowing up a church is the equivalent of blowing up a tree - not militarily significant.

I spend a lot of my time talking and debating with people, to try to tease out the fundamental misunderstandings. E.g. the Russians and the Chinese can sense (correctly) that we consider them as enemies still. Or if not enemies, at least outcasts. They don't know why, and we don't know why either, so we can't tell them what we're looking for from them. When pressed, we tell China we want a democracy. But the Chinese correctly realise that democracy will be a disaster at the moment, as much of the population is still rural and uneducated. The West did not have instant democracy. In America, it started with white male landowners only. The Chinese correctly realise that they need to complete their economic reforms so that people can see them in action, so that they won't vote for traditional communism. And the reason we don't trust Russia is because subconciously we can see that Russia is subjugating others (Georgia and Moldova), and our primal instincts are treating this as an entity to be wary of. But the Russians can only see that "America" is advancing towards its borders, as a hostile anti-Russian entity. This is invoking primal survival instincts in them too. Because they see themselves in the tribe of Russians, and don't see that they have anything in common with the West. And they are correct. Unless Russia becomes an anti-subjugator or non-subjugator, they will not be able to ally with NATO (a collection of anti-subjugators and non-subjugators).

In this calm before the storm, we need to reach out to the rest of the world and try to frankly explain to them where the misunderstandings are and what can be done to solve them. E.g. I was talking to a Chinese, who was proud of how powerful China was, as shown by the Olympic medal tally. I explained how boasting about the power of a dictatorship simply scares the hell out of me, and makes me want to form an alliance with the rest of the free world to ensure that China's power is countered. This is a natural reaction. A lot of people seem to think that Australia only joins with the rest of the free world because of American pressure. They can't get their head around the fact that free countries NATURALLY coalesce. If the Chinese government can subjugate the Chinese people, then they can subjugate others too. There is primal distrust due to this.

And here's another misunderstanding that I found out about today, that prompted this blog. Capitalism is not working properly in the third world, and the third world thinks that it is some western plot to keep them down, or that the west is only rich due to exploitation of them. But people in the west know that they are doing no such thing. But we don't know what is going wrong. We inherited our systems from our parents and it just "works". The author explains that the third world is missing the system of property rights that enables individuals to get capital (using their house as collateral) to start businesses.

We need to do more frank analysis of the problems with the rest of the world so that we can help them to address them before there are more misunderstandings that lead to unnecessary conflicts. Another problem is racism. In the west we assume that everyone is non-racist, since that's how we were brought up. But that is far from the case, be it Asia or the Middle East. Most of these countries are a distinct race, and so the distinction of "nation" and "race" is more blurred. They assume that we are as racist as them, and the endless stream of left-wing propaganda from our own countries seems to confirm that. Basically WASPs (White Anglo-Saxon Protestants) are made out to be the most racist people in the world, when the opposite is true.

We should be prepared to go to war to wipe out the enemy ideology, but we owe it to humanity to frankly explain to the adherents of the enemy ideologies why we see their ideology (be it racism or religious bigotry or dictatorship) as a threat to ourselves. Otherwise we will end up wiping them out without them even knowing what they needed to change in their behaviour to get off the "enemy list". This is what I am trying to do - document the fundamental point of conflict.

Our governments themselves have less latitude in being able to bluntly tell the enemies why they are enemies, because there is the potential for all the enemies to form a hostile alliance. It makes more sense if our governments bite their tongues and just take on one enemy at a time. But the public needs to be made aware of the "potential grand plan" so that it will continue to vote for the pro-war camp who are taking out the enemies one at a time. Fortunately the pro-war camp in both Australia and the US won by a whisker. But it would be good to get the Europeans on board so that it is not necessary to be so dependent on America.

I was talking to an Egyptian on IRC today, and he explained how he distrusted the US and the UK (not surprising given all the propaganda levelled at these two countries), but on the possibility of Australia leading a coalition to free Iran, he said "At least I know and all will know that there is no hidden benefit beyond liberation". I think it makes sense at this point in history to make use of the fact that there are many free countries in the world besides the US and the UK. Although I trust both of these countries as forces of freedom, if others don't, and there's no harm in using a different combination of forces, it makes sense as a tactic to present a different pattern of liberators. This is what was done with the ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) in Afghanistan - there was no Americans in the force, which takes away the enemy's ability to talk of a US invasion. I think this was an excellent move!

I think ultimately we need to move to a US-less coalition of liberators, or at least, only use the US for air power. This is also good for the US, which hates having to deploy ground troops. I think this is the future. An ISAF-like coalition of liberators. I believe with the complete air supremacy enjoyed by the free world, that we can invent a new military doctrine, similar to that in Afghanistan, where we liberate one "enemy" base at a time, and keep anyone willing to defect on board, and send the rest home, until the whole country is governed by the defectors who have freedom as their highest loyalty.

The Cause

Hello and welcome to my blog. Ever since I was a child I wished we could bring freedom to Eastern Europe, so that they could democratically choose whether or not they wanted to live under communism. I cannot describe how elated I was when communism fell. I had expected that the Russians would join us in freeing the rest of the world after that, but it unfortunately didn't happen, and dictatorship (state-slavery) still reigns in a lot of the world. The only protest I have ever been on in my life was against the Chinese Communist Party after they slaughtered the children in Tianamen Square. Listen up you commie bastards - those were MY children you slaughtered. Fellow anti-subjugators (freedom-fighters). My tribe is the anti-subjugators, and it was my brothers and sisters that you killed. I will do what I can to topple your dictatorship and set the rest of my kin free. And Taiwan will be defended at all cost too.

And now I would like to speak to the woman in the bottom left-hand corner here. I want you to know that I am OUTRAGED that your government did this to you. While we can't stop every criminal and prevent every atrocity, we can sure as hell make it ILLEGAL for this to be done to you. In Australia, we don't even allow people to treat ANIMALS this way. We have the RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). But we don't have a similar organization to prevent cruelty to humans who happen to live in different geographical areas to us. As if they don't matter. And don't think that the feminists are doing anything to help you. Do you think they applauded Bush ending institutionalized rape in Iraq? Nope. They are too busy trying to create trumped up charges against men in their own countries. See here.

But you don't have to suffer alone. I feel your pain and suffering. I have empathy for you. I am in the tribe of humans and no fellow human should suffer like this. I promise you that I will do everything in my power to free you and bring you the justice you deserve. As a human you have human rights, and this sort of thing is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. I live in a democracy, and if I can get 50.00001% of Australia to agree that the government that did this to you needs to be toppled, then the Australian military can liberate you. This is my promise to you. I will do everything I can to get John Howard, the current Australian Prime Minister, to set our military loose. As far as I am concerned, Australia's highest priority should be your plight, and the plight of any other person being subjugated.

Australia should lead a coalition of the free world, to topple the remaining dictators, in a strategic manner (ie one at a time). The US could take the lead, but the US is quite isolationist by nature and also tends to have a narrowly-defined "national interest". Australia is more of an anti-subjugator country by nature, and not very nationalistic. We see ourselves as members of the world, especially the free world, not a different species, and we're quite used to going overseas to liberate people. Australia should dedicate its efforts to force-projection so that we can liberate Iran. Abandon territorial defence. No-one would dare attack us, we have too many friends in America and Europe. Our military can be of more use by ripping through the Middle East and Africa, toppling insidious regimes and replacing them with humanist, anti-subjugating liberal democracies. If we can't get a coalition to back us up, we should act unilaterally, taking on dictators that are within our capability to topple. No-one from the free world will stop us from bringing freedom to others. We were so easily able to bring freedom to the people of the Solomon Islands that it is outrageous that the chaos was allowed to reign for YEARS when it was so easy to stop.

If the Chinese communists want to stand in our way, let them show their hand. We need to be leaning forward advancing the cause of freedom. To quote Kasparov, "For the first time in history, we are in a position to checkmate tyranny". Let us seize the moment and help bring justice to the many victims of injustice. The problem is not technical. We have the armed forces already trained and equipped. The problem is lack of political will to deploy them. This is where I see my role. Changing public opinion. Making the free world ashamed for turning a blind eye to the plight of those living in dictatorships. This is my cause.
